CREATING A JUNGLE RECORD CORNER

For the past couple years, our old record player lived on our media console underneath the TV. We had it hooked up to our soundbar and it worked fine, however there wasn’t really a designated space where you could plop down and listen to music - something I’ve been craving. So when we upgraded to a beautiful new record player, I decided to create a special listening space. A cozy corner in the living room where I could floor hang and switch out the records without having to get up to retrieve a new album each time. I’m sure by now you know all about my slothy bum, bahaha. Sharing my design for the perf jungle vinyl listening corner, below!

Most important to me was picking a record player that not only has great sound, but is also beautifully designed. Our old player wasn’t the prettiest, and had a plastic top that I really didn’t vibe with. So this time around, I wanted something that would blend in seamlessly with our home decor vibe. When I saw this Victrola, I instantly new it was the one. Beautifully crafted from real wood and woven linen fabric, it’s just my style! As for sound, the moment we turned it on we knew we had a keeper. These speakers are FAB - so fab in fact, Eddie wants to steal them for his computer. Ain’t gonna happen, stinky!! :P

To create this nook, we first had to clear the space. Our big rattan chair was moved to another spot in the living room, and I started shuffling around plants. My big bird of paradise got placed right in the corner, and I layered smaller plants around its giant seagrass basket for extra pops of green. I originally had planned on placing the record player on a small table, but it didn’t fit nicely - so I went back to the drawing board. I started looking around the house to see what could be repurposed as a record stand. I didn’t want to buy anything new, and was determined to go “shopping” with furniture we already owned. My eyes kept going to our dining room bench - something that’s only really used when we have dinner parties (which isn’t often). Living in a small space, it’s important to utilize rooms as much as possible - taking the bench out of the dining room freed up a lot of extra space, as we were able to push our dining table all the way to the wall. That leaves 4 chairs still avail at the table, more than enough for Eddie and I.

Setting the bench up in this corner worked even better than I thought it would! Not only did it hold the record player and one of the speakers nicely, I also had room to style my big monstera bb on it. Look how happy he is perched on his throne, showing off his leaves! The bench also created a fab nook to store some of my records, which was very much needed as I had run out of room in our media console. I used the second speaker as a sort of book end, helping the records stay propped up on the floor.

When I shared this corner on Instagram, someone commented that we weren’t getting great sound from our speakers because of the placement - which was a head scratcher to me, because how do they know?! Ha!! The sound is fabulous in my opinion, but feel free to place your speakers wherever works for you :)

Layer in more plants, rugs, a pouf, prop up large framed art against the wall for an extra pop of greenery, and voila - a cozy jungle floor hang lounge! Listening corner complete. We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!
